Tours

Tour #1: Galilee and the North
May 29-30

(price €157 - single supplement €30 )
Day I
Depart Jerusalem and drive past Tel Aviv, Israel's first modern city built on sand dunes. Continue north through the orange groves of Sharon to Netanya. Follow the coastal road through the greenery (previous swamps) of Hadera to King Herod's ancient Roman port city of Caesaria. Tour ancient port, hippodrome, Crusader buildings and experience the museum and film taking you back 2000 years. Pass Zichron Yaakov and hear about the vineyards and city Baron Rothschild built nearly 100 years ago. Tour Haifa, pass Carmel Mountains, Stella Maris, Bahai Gardens and archeological sites including lecture at Haifa University Hecht Museum about the ancient boat found in the Sea of Galilee. On campus break for lunch (not included). Exit Haifa north towards Acco. Visit Crusader UNESCO Heritage site of the underground city where the Knights of the Round Table may have eaten. Visit ancient port city, the market place and if time permits, the citadel prison where the British jailed Israel's Lehi and pre-state fighters. Overnight in Kibbutz; supper and breakfast included.

Day II
Depart Kibbutz enroute to Tiberias and Sea of Galilee, Church of the Beatitudes, visit ancient synagogue Capernaum, the teaching center of Jesus. Break for lunch (not included). Continue along the Jordan Valley to Beit-Shean - Scitopolis - a major city during Roman and Byzantine period excavated in the last two decades. Walk along the main streets, theatre, bathhouses and shops and view the ancient Tel. Proceed to the ancient synagogue at Zippori and hear talk of restorations on-site. Return to Jerusalem via Jordan Valley touring ancient sites from Biblical period (time-permitting). Arrive in Jerusalem by 6 p.m.

Tour #2: Jerusalem Walking Tour
May 31

Depart Conference hotel at 09:00. Visit the Old-City of Jerusalem and tour on foot Mt. Zion, King David's Tomb, the Room of the Last-Supper, Dormision Church, Zion Gate and the Old City Quarters: Armenian, Jewish and Christian. Visit the Cardo, the Western Wall and underground temple tunnels, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Tomb. Break for lunch (not included). Exit the Old City via Jaffa Gate, so named as city exit to the ancient port city of Jaffa (which served Jerusalem 3000 years ago) Arrive back at hotel at 4 p.m.

Tour #3: Masada, Qumran, Ancient Synagogue and the Dead Sea
June 1

(price €95)
Depart Jerusalem hotel at 08:00. Descend through the beautiful scenery of the Judean Desert passing the hostel of the "Good Samaritan" and stopping for an overview of Jericho and biblical description of Moses' 40 years in the desert and Joshua's entry into Israel. Arrive at the lowest point on Earth - the Dead Sea. Drive along the Sea, tour Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Continue on to tour Masada - ancient fortress built by Herod the Great in the 1st century B.C., the last Jewish stronghold during the revolt against the Romans in the 1st century C.E. Visit ancient synagogue nearby and view ancient mosaic inscriptions. There will be time for a dip in the Dead Sea.
